One often overlooked reason to get the accounting and financial side of your business in order is that you never know when you may be presented with an exciting growth opportunity.
Maybe it's an acquisition opportunity. Maybe a competitor has stumbled and being opportunistic requires you to either entice some new investors or get some additional financing to quickly capitalize on the opportunity.
To attract the capital to do a deal, you have to be in a position to produce a solid financial package that, in short order, creates confidence with your lenders or investors.
Being ready now creates strength
It has to subtly say "We've got the accounting and financial side of our business under control".
It has to show the key drivers of performance in your business in a way that is easy to understand and easy for them to digest.
You have to present financial and cash flow projections that are reliable so it shows what has been happening, and what is about to happen, financially in your business (including a clear picture of the expected impact of the new opportunity you are presenting).
The secret
The secret here is you have to be in a position to present all that very quickly before the opportunity slips away.
That's where a strong company can beat another competitor who doesn't have the horsepower to put a respectable financial package together quickly that creates confidence with the financial community.
